Henning Stahlberg named UC Davis Chancellor’s Fellow
Professor Henning Stahlberg at the College of Biological Sciences Centennial Celebration in October 2008.
Henning Stahlberg, associate professor of molecular and cellular biology, has been named by Chancellor Larry Vanderhoef as a Chancellor's Fellows for 2008.
The Chancellor's Fellows program was established in 2000 to honor the achievements of extraordinary UC Davis faculty early in their careers.
One or more faculty from the College of Biological Sciences have been among the honorees of this program each year since it was established, and this year was no exception, with the naming of Henning Stahlberg of the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology as a 2008 Fellow. Stahlberg received a $25,000 prize, supported by private contributions to the UC Davis Annual Fund and Davis Chancellor's Club, which can be used for research, teaching or service activities.
Those nominating him for this award characterized Dr. Stahlberg as "a highly-regarded leader in the field of cryo-electron microscopy" and "a very gifted scholar." His research focuses on improving the methodology of cryo-electron microscopy and using those new methods to determine the structures of membrane proteins. Stahlberg has made impressive contributions to his field, and has helped establish an internationally recognized facility for Cryo-Transmission Electron Microscopy.
Congratulations to Henning for his remarkable achievements!
